Geboren und aufgewachsen im sonnigen Santa Monica, California, geht Tim Otis‘ Liebe zur Musik bis zurück in die späten 70, als er sich auf seinem Heimweg von der Schule 7″ Singles kaufte. Sein Hobby sollte bald alle Aspekte seines zu Hauses bestimmen, in dem er alle Räume mit Ton verkabelte.
Was als Leidenschaft begann wurde bald zum Ganztagsjob in den 80ern, als er gefragt wurde, beruflich Musik für Veranstaltungen bereitzustellen. Die damalige musikalische Landschaft war weit und spannend, als Groß Britannien vor Talent explodierte: „New Romantic“ hatte Europa im Sturm erobert, war in den Vororten Kaliforniens jedoch weitestgehend unbekannt.
Tim Otis stellte den Soundtrack für viele Veranstaltungen unter dem Namen „Natural Outputs“. Er mixte Tracks von The The und den Simple Minds zusammen mit experimentelleren Acts, wie Bill Nelson und Brian Eno. Das Ergebnis war eine Klanglandschaft, die ihre Hörer gleichermaßen fesselte und beruhigte.

1991 startete Otis mit der Acid House Partyreihe in San Francisco’s legendärem Clum „I Beam“ auf der Haight Street die ersten Ecstasy inspirierten Parties der Stadt.
Der „New Beat“ Sound Belgiens wurde mit der manisch sequenzierten Musik Londons vermischt und bot somit die Basis für ein Jahrzehnt illegaler Warehouse Parties, das folgte.
Tim’s Beiträge zur After House Szene fanden schnell Beachtung und als Promoter begannen größeren Wert auf Chill Out Areas zum Entspannen und rehydrieren für die Raver zu legen. Tims Arbeit umfasste Video und Diashow-Montagen, ChillOut-Design und natürlich beruhigende Klangcollagen.

1995 zog Tim nach Prag und eine neue Leidenschaft war geboren: Radio.
Seinen Einstieg fand er als Aushilfe bei „Demon Sounds“ auf Radio 1, doch das Programm wandelte sich schnell in eine Melange aus Breakbeat, Trip Hop und Acid Jazz und so musste ein neuer Name her: „Eclectica“.
Aufgrund großer Beliebtheit folgte alsbald ein 3-Stündiger Prim-Time Slot, jeden Freitag Abend. Unter dem Namen „High Fidelity“ präsentierte Tim Otis ab sofort wöchentlich einen bunten Teppich der musikalischen Vielfalt.
Aktuelle Inspirationen stammen von Lamb, Kid Loco, William Orbit, Thievery Corporation, Kruder & Dorfmeister und Fink, um nur ein paar zu nennen.
„Ein starkes perkussives Element ist kritisch für erfolgreiche Lounge Sets“, sagt Otis zu seiner 4-jährigen Residency in der Lounge von Radost FX. „Man vergisst schnell, dass es zu meinen Aufgaben gehört, meine Hörer auch zu forden. Ich möchte in Deine Gefühle eintauchen, lange vergangene Sounds und Menschen wiederfinden, auf eine innere Reise gehen, dorthin, wo nur der Hörer war. Ich möchte den Soundtrack für Dein Leben spielen!“

Biography

Born and raised in sunny Santa Monica, California, Tim Otis‘ love of music stretches back to the late 70’s where he would purchase 7” vinyl singles on his way home from school. His hobby soon encompassed all aspects of his home where he would modify all his rooms to be “wired for sound” What started as a passion became full time work in the 80’s when asked to provide music for gatherings as a profession. The musical landscape then rich as Britain exploded with a cornucopia of new talent. “New Romantic” music had swept Europe but was largely unheard in suburban California. Tim provided soundtracks to many a gathering under the firm name “Natural Outputs”. Mixing tracks from The The and Simple Minds along with more experimental acts such as Bill Nelson and Brian Eno, the result was an environmental soundscape that soothed and intrigued listeners.

In 1991 Otis founded the Acid House in San Francisco’s legendary “I Beam” nightclub on Haight Street. This was the first ecstasy inspired party of its kind in the city. The Balearic “New Beat” of Belgium had mixed with the manically sequenced industrial music of London, which provided the backdrop for a decade of illegal wherehouse parties that followed thereafter. Tim’s contribution to the after hours scene was prolific. Gears shifted as promoters soon placed additional emphasis on”chill-out” areas where ravers could unwind and rehydrate after dancing. Tim’s work included video and slide montages, chill room design as well as a soothing downtempo soundsape environments.

Tim’s move to Prague in 1995 gave birth to a new passion, radio broadcasting. Having started as a substitute on “Demon Sounds” on Radio 1 the program soon morphed into an mélange of break beats, trip hop and acid jazz hence its first name change “Eclectica”. The shows success prompted an expanded 3 hour prime time slot on Friday nights called „High Fidelity“ showcasing the diverse musical tapestry of all things musical. Present inspirations include Lamb, Kid Loco, William Orbit, Thievery Co. Kruder & Dorfmeister and Fink to name a few. “A strong percussive element is critical to successful  lounge  sets” says Otis as he settles into his 4-year residency in the Lounge at Radost FX. “People forget that challenging the listener is part of my job. I want to immerse your senses, recollect sounds and persons long gone, journey within’ to where only the listener has been. I want to soundtrack your life!”
